Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete (GFRC)

Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) is a composite material consisting of a mortar of hydraulic cement and fine aggregate reinforced with Cem-FIL alkali resistant glass fibres. The GFRC may contain additional filler materials, pozzolanic materials and admixtures. The fibre contents are typically 3% to 5% by weight depending on product application and production method employed. The properties of GFRC depend on a wide range of variables. These include method of manufacture, mix formulation, fibre product type, length and orientation, admixtures used, etc. A GFRC material may therefore be tailored to meet the particular requirements of a specific application. The information given in this publication mainly referes to GFRC materials having an aggregate: cement ratio of up to 1:1; incorporating Cem-FILAR glass fibre and made by the spray and premix processes. These GFRC materials have been widely used for many years and their properties and characteristics studied extensively.

GFRC is a family of composite materials that combine the high compressive strength properties of cement mortars with significantly increased impact, flexural and tensile strengths imparted by the fibre reinforcement.

GFRC products are safe, have good chemical resistance and will not rot or corrode. GFRC is made of inorganic materials and will nor burn, has negligible smoke emission and offers good fire resistance. In some circumstances GFRC is made containing polymer materials which may slightly affect some fire performance properties. GFRC is normally of relatively thin cross section, giving a low component weight which allows savings in handling, storage, transportation, and installation compared with traditional concrete products.

There are two main methods of manufacturing GFRC :

Glass Fibre Reinforced Gypsum (GFRG)

Glass-reinforced gypsum technology produces thin, lightweight, high-strength pieces for architectural applications. There are plaster compounds to meet the demands of a wide range of hand lay-up and spray applications. Georgia-Pacific produces several glass-reinforced gypsum (GFRG) plaster products engineered to meet a wide variety of specifications for architectural decoration. While our standard formulations generally meet most needs, we also can customize a special formulation for you based on your specifications for a particular application.

Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum (GFRG or GFRG) is the bridge to shapes and curves for the drywall/plasterboard trades. With the move away from "less is more" in the late 1970's and the re-introduction of traditional architectural forms, GFRG (or GFRG) evolved as the ideal medium. The construction boom of the past four decades established Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum as the means for architects and designers to achieve their design visions, while leveraging the experience of regular building trades. Today, Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum is used to achieve modern and "organic" shapes on walls and ceiling, in addition to traditional architectural shapes.

Glass Fibre Reinforced Plastic (GFRP)

Our G F R P Works

Glass Fibre Reinforced Plastic (GFRP), is a composite material or fibre-reinforced polymer made of a plastic reinforced by fine fibers made of glass. Like carbon fibre reinforced plastic, the composite material is commonly referred to by the name of its reinforcing fibres (fibreglass).

Basically, GFRP consists of thermosetting resins and glass fibre. With regard to composing these ingredients and choosing the right resins, best winding techniques and glass fibre components to guarantee the quality and the benefits of the materials, Plasticon Composites is the right and major choice. Experience and expertise is key to ensuring that customers are supplied with well designed GFRP products.

GFRP material is used for its high mechanical strength, light weight, corrosion and temperature resistant properties, thermal insulation, smooth internal surface, easy to form complex shapes, ease of repair and its cost effectiveness.
